Social Media seems to be the cornerstone of the internet these days. Whether your business is using social media or not, your customers are. 75% of the population use it and spend as much of 30% of their time online using the likes of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. While not in the same vein, YouTube and Vimeo can’t be ignored. There are over a billion people using online video streaming, watching billions of hours every month.
People are using Facebook, Twitter etc.more and more to search for businesses rather than Google. At the same time, searches in Google will often return your business’s social media accounts high up in search results. The basics of social media are free – of course you can pay for more exposure via advertising. A huge outlet of internet users spending large amounts of time on websites where you can be seen just cannot be ignored.
Don’t put it off, get your business presence across all the platforms. Get your details up: names, address, phone, website, opening hours, photos, and don’t forget to pick your shortened URLs (e.g. www.facebook.com/yourbusinessname) keeping them as close to your business name as you can and, if possible, the same across all the platforms. And be sure to post content on a regular basis at good times of the day, if you want to target multiple markets in different timezones you can use services such as HootSuite to schedule posts for all across the world while you are away from your computer.
